Changing education across the continuum

On Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine will host a series of interactive conversations focused on addressing anti-Black racism in medical education, with a specific focus on undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at the University of Toronto.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear about, discuss and provide feedback about structural-institutional issues, including actions taken as well as potential next steps to address anti-Black racism across the continuum of medical education at Temerty Medicine.

Goal

To provide members of the Temerty Medicine Black medical education community and other internal and external partners with an opportunity to discuss and provide feedback about anti-Black racism in medical education, with a particular focus on actions taken and potential next steps to inform strategic and operational planning across the continuum of medical education at Temerty Medicine.

Objectives

  • Provide an overview of actions taken, underway and/or planned for within Temerty Medicine to address anti-Black racism, organized according to various transition points across the continuum of medical admission
  • Discuss key issues and obtain feedback from Temerty Medicine Black medical education community members and other internal and external partners
  • Explore potential next steps to address anti-Black racism across the continuum of medical education at Temerty Medicine

Target Audience

This opportunity is intended primarily for Black faculty members, staff and learners, and leaders within Temerty Medicine.

It is equally intended for internal and external partners who have helped inform the Black Student Application Program and Temerty Medicine Black health education programming, including the Black Medical Students’ Association of Canada, U of T Black Medical Students’ Association, Black Physicians’ Association of Ontario, Black Resident Physicians of Ontario, Black Health Alliance, Black Health Education Collaborative, and Black Community Health Centre leaders.

Given the goal of facilitating conversations that will have an impact, Temerty Medicine education leaders and others invested in addressing anti-Black racism in medical education are welcome participants.
